GE to Begin RFQ Process to Redevelop Fort Wayne Campus

Search for a Developer Starts May 25

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – General Electric (GE), in collaboration with Greater Fort Wayne (GFW) Inc., announced today that General Electric will begin a request-for-qualifications (RFQ) process on Wednesday, May 25 to search for a developer and/or investor to redevelop the 1.2 million-square-foot GE Broadway Street campus. This campus has been unoccupied since January 2015.

Proposed development projects like the $100 million riverfront, $30 million redevelopment of The Landing, and $85 million downtown arena have played a role in GE’s choice to begin the potential redevelopment process.

GFW Inc.’s economic development team has worked closely with GE during the last several months to build a relationship with the company that has encouraged GE to consider redevelopment.

“We’re excited to see GE move the process forward to redevelop their Fort Wayne Broadway Street campus,” GFW Inc., CEO Eric Doden, said. “We’ve already had interest from national developers because of the other projects we, as a community, are working on simultaneously. We’re anxious to see what opportunities GE will discover through the RFQ process.”

The GE RFQ document, developed by CBRE, outlines the requirements and characteristics GE is seeking in a developer or investor. Because of the size of the campus, the project will likely attract both local and national developers.

The submission deadline for the RFQ process is July 13, after which GE will narrow down potential developers who will be asked to submit formal development proposals in October. A final developer could be selected as early as December.
