Moving On Up

Tresa Muessling knows a thing or two about health–as a trained dancer and Pilates instructor, she has dedicated her life to helping others improve theirs. So when she got the opportunity to take over a small business in 2012, she knew she wanted to make sure she was contributing to the health of the business community in her area.

“I think that if you want to have a small business in a community you have to be dedicated to that community,” says Muessling, who now runs Pure Movement, a pilates studio downtown. “For the last 3 years, 4 years, the community [had] been so good to me that I really wanted to give back.”

When she went looking for an organization working to improve the health of the Fort Wayne business community, she came straight to Greater Fort Wayne Inc.

At GFW Inc., she was able to get involved with a Leads Group. The six groups are a collection of local business representatives committed to each other’s success through networking, passing of leads and sharing marketing strategies. Leads Groups meet twice a month to develop relationships with other group members and are a great resource for those looking to connect with like-minded individuals seeking similar information. Being in a Leads Group has given Muessling the opportunity to network with other business leaders in the city, including those with whom she wouldn’t normally come into contact. She has also found the group to be a useful sounding board for business development ideas, boosting her creativity.

“When you get to meet with other people, and talk to [them] about other business ideas, it allows you to think more outside of the box,” she added.

As the owner of a Pilates studio, Muessling said that she appreciates the opportunity to be part of a community that sees the value of unique businesses, and is willing and eager to support them.

“Greater Fort Wayne Inc. is invested in small businesses because they recognize that that’s how Fort Wayne is going to grow,” she said. “I’m part of a downtown that’s growing and finding its identity…and GFW Inc. sees that potential.”
