Company Plans to Add Up to 337 Jobs, Invest $51.1 Million
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne Metals, a medical wire company, today announced plans to significantly expand its footprint in Fort Wayne by adding one new building and revitalizing another. The expansion will create up to 337 new jobs and fuel a total estimated capital investment of $51.1 million over the next five years.
Fort Wayne Metals continues to experience growing demand, both internationally and domestically. In response, the company plans to construct a two-story, 40,000-square-foot addition to its corporate office building at 9609 Ardmore Ave. Fort Wayne Metals will also revitalize a 60,000-square-foot building located at 4202 Piper Drive, which the company recently purchased for expansion. This project will increase the company’s production capacity for precision wire and wire-based components for the medical device industry and other critical applications. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017.

Fort Wayne Metals serves a worldwide customer base. Services include research and development, production, and distribution of high-quality materials, precision wire, strands and cables, and mechanical assemblies for medical devices and other demanding applications.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered Fort Wayne Metals up to $84,000 in training grants and up to $3,449,000 in conditional tax credits, based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning that until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. Northeast Indiana Works will provide the company with additional hiring and training assistance. Fort Wayne City Council will also consider tax phase-ins for Fort Wayne Metals’ eligible real and personal (equipment) property investments.

As Fort Wayne and Allen County’s primary point of contact for economic development services, Greater Fort Wayne Inc. worked with state and local partners to assist Fort Wayne Metals with their expansion plans. To date in 2017, Greater Fort Wayne Inc. has assisted 27 businesses in expansions or relocations in Allen County, resulting in a total of nearly $237,000,000 in new investment and 1,838 projected new jobs.
