CPI Card Group to Expand Its Current Facility and Add New Equipment

Fort Wayne, Ind. – CPI Card Group, a global leader in financial, EMV and commercial card production, and related services, announced it will be expanding its Fort Wayne facility.  CPI Card Group has hired CME Corporation to construct the building addition of approximately 4,400 square feet.  The company will hire an additional 14 new employees over the next three years to complete the expansion.

The expansion includes a line of state-of-the-art milling and embedding equipment along with a capacity expansion. This provides Fort Wayne with full capability to manufacture EMV smart cards while the facility will continue to focus on providing short-run, quick-turn solutions for their customers.  Currently widely used throughout major global markets, EMV technology reflects a shift from magnetic-stripe cards to EMV smart cards. The market migration to EMV in the U.S. is set to be well under way by October 2015; the liability shift date set by the major payment associations.

“During the last three years we have continued to prepare our business to support our customers in the migration to EMV smart cards in the U.S.,” said Steve Montross, President and CEO of CPI. “The expansion of our Fort Wayne facility extends our EMV capacity further providing the same rigorous capabilities, processes and quality systems existent for smart card manufacturing at CPI.”

CME Corportation will begin construction in April of this year. CPI Card Group plans to convert old office space into production space and reconfigure office space within the building. The company will invest $1.8 million in four new pieces of equipment and $1.5 million in the physical expansion.

“We’re encouraged by the commitment and investment demonstrated by CPI Card Group,” said Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry. “Fort Wayne is a leader in business and job growth. Companies like CPI Card Group assist us in our efforts to enhance the business climate and quality of life in our community. We’re seeing unprecedented momentum in Fort Wayne.”

The Fort Wayne City Council will consider CPI Card Group’s request for both real and personal property tax phase-in in March.
