At Greater Fort Wayne Inc., our Economic Development team is working to build a strong economic future for Fort Wayne and Allen County. About the Role

Position Title: Director of Economic Development

Compensation: Salaried

Reports To: Chief Economic Development Officer


The Director of Economic Development will work toward fulfilling GFW Inc.’s mission and work plan. This person will regularly meet with Allen County businesses; assist new/existing companies with attraction/expansion projects; work with local partners to identify and promote economic development tools/programs; engage with workforce development partners; and participate in community and GFW Inc. programming. Must work cooperatively and jointly with businesses and government agencies to provide a high-quality and seamless customer service experience.

GFW Inc. serves as the chamber of commerce and economic development agency for Fort Wayne – Allen County. A successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the GFW Inc. mission and values.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Proactively work with existing and new businesses that are looking to expand in our market.
  • Manage business retention and expansion efforts through our on-site business visitation program (visiting 500 Allen County businesses annually), including outreach and scheduling.
  • Respond to leads received directly and those issued by our economic development partners.
  • Educate companies on available incentives.
  • Manage active projects: coordinate the relationship between the company and the government agencies (local, regional, state, federal) providing incentives.
  • Report on workflow and accountability to the GFW team and community partners.
  • Work on development issues and projects that result in positive outcomes for the community – as outlined in Allen County Together.
  • Develop leads through relationships with developers, CPA’s, attorneys, bankers, local officials, brokers, etc.
  • Generate leads through various conferences and sponsored events, internal and external to Allen County.
  • Represent GFW on boards, committees, and professional associations within the community.
  • Commit to knowing and adhering to our GFW Inc. team expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Business, Finance, Public Administration, Planning or a closely related field.
  • 5-7 years of economic development, commercial real estate/development, or closely related experience.
  • Passion for the Fort Wayne / Allen County community.
  • Understanding of programs offered by the Indiana Economic Development Corp., City of Fort Wayne, Allen County, City of New Haven, Town of Huntertown, Northeast Indiana Works, and other partners.
  • Working knowledge of planning, procedures, regulations, technological and other market-related changes in all areas related to economic development.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to resolve problems from a practical standpoint, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently or in group settings.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills – written and verbal; comfortable speaking in public.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Outlook calendar, email, shared drives, Microsoft Office, and Zoom.
