FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Allen County is in the midst of an economic upswing, but there’s still much to learn about how to build a nationally recognized economy. In an ongoing effort to help community leaders learn from their counterparts in other successful cities, Greater Fort Wayne (GFW) Inc. will lead a visit to Greenville, S.C., August 22-24, 2018.
Greenville provides a shining example of postindustrial revitalization thanks to vision, sustained leadership, collaborative planning, public-private partnerships, and maximizing natural assets. Participants in this Inter-City Visit will see and learn firsthand Greenville’s continued and impressive success story.
Among its many accolades, Greenville was named a top tourist destination in 2018. The city now enjoys a strong arts-and-culture scene with world-class restaurants and special events. In addition to successful downtown revitalization, which includes housing, riverfront development, and yes, a downtown grocery, Greenville has set its sights on yet another major goal: technology- and knowledge-based startup businesses.
Just last month, Bloomberg reported that Greenville’s rate of new business startups rivals Boston, which has been fertile ground for new businesses, and that Greenville’s population has grown almost 20 percent from 2000 to 2016.
During the visit, participants will meet members of Greenville’s entrepreneurial community, as well as elected officials, community and business leaders, and creatives. These leaders will provide inspiration and ideas that can be applied in Allen County to help keep the economic momentum going strong.
The cost to attend this year’s trip is $1,990 per person. Costs include air and ground transportation, meals, and lodging. Only 11 seats remain, and seats will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Final reservations and payment are due July 16.
