FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne is primed for its second Kiddie Academy location. After finding success at their first local location on Coldwater Road, co-owners Hajira and Dr. Zubair Khan will open a second childcare site, on the city’s southwest side at 9336 Illinois Rd. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kiddie Academy Southwest Fort Wayne is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Kiddie Academy serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old, offering full-time care, preschool, kindergarten prep, before-and after-school care, and summer camp programs. The new location creates 30 new jobs.
“We are thrilled to provide our unique services to more children in the Fort Wayne area,” Hajira Khan said. “Our LifeEssentials curriculum incorporates learning through play while addressing physical, social, language, cognitive, and emotional development.”
Established in 1981 and headquartered in Maryland, Kiddie Academy has more than 228 franchise locations across the country–five in Indiana. The Khans opened the Coldwater Road location in 2013 and were overwhelmed by the community response.
“We saw a huge need for better childcare services and preschools in Fort Wayne,” Hajira Khan said. “Our two-year waitlist made us realize we needed to expand. Investing in early-childhood education is imperative for the future generation.”
The family’s second Kiddie Academy location may not be its last; there’s already a waiting list at the Illinois Road site, and the Khans aspire to open more Fort Wayne locations in the future.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to the public, and Mayor Tom Henry is expected to be in attendance. The full grand opening celebration and open house are slated for Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m.-noon.
